Tips for Making Cold Brew at Home
Warm weather is coming, which can only mean one thing: it’s Cold Brew season! Cold Brew is distinct from iced coffee because this method brings out a mix of smooth yet bold flavors in a coffee. If you’re wanting to level up your at home coffee routine this summer, making your own delicious Cold Brew Concentrate is a great option for you! Here’s 3 tips to help you get started:
Use coarse ground coffee.
Since the coffee is going to be immersed in water for a long period of time, you want your coffee to have a medium-coarse grind so that it doesn’t over extract and possibly lead to a bitter cup. If you don’t have a grinder, don’t worry! We can grind our coffee to whatever grind you need.
Steep for at least 16 hours.
When using an immersion method like cold brew, you want to make sure your grounds are completely saturated, but be careful not to over extract either. We have found that starting at 16 hours and adding or subtracting time from there makes it easy to find the sweet spot for your cold brew concentrate.
Don’t be afraid to experiment!
There are so many variables you can manipulate when it comes to making your own Cold Brew. Switch up your coffee-to-water ratio to change up your concentrate. Notice the difference between brews made with room temperature or cold water, or when left on the counter versus stored in the fridge to steep. Grind your coffee to different coarseness, or let it steep for less or more time to speed up or slow down extraction time.
After you’ve made your Cold Brew concentrate, dilute it to suit your taste and keep it stored in the fridge for 7-10 days.
